# Market Creation

Markets can be created by assembling metrics, values and conditions into an expression that can be evaluated to an outcome by the contract, and providing an expiry date. The initial markets will be instantiated by the Providence team, and upon migration to decentralised governance, they will be instantiated according to [governance](/providence-labs/prov/governance.md) procedures.
